Best Hotels part 3

The Biltmore-Coral Gables

In a world class city like Miami you expect to see some out of this world hotels.  But not many can say they have held royalty and presidents.  The Biltmore is a very unique place in a city like Miami.  The space, seclusion, and amenities are unmatched.  Being built in 1926 this hotel has survived World Wars, Prohibition and more hurricanes than any other place.

The Gables are a great respite from the craziness of the city without being too far away.  It's quite, upscale and relaxed.  The Biltmore is located right near the old town center of Coral Gables, it's mostly residential now but very secluded.  No tours or photographers (aside from wedding or events) are allowed.  That helps them maintain the confidence of their high end clientele.  It should go without saying the hotel is stunning in it's Mediterranean Spanish castle style with Travertine marble that are classic in the Gables.

Rates: ~$250/night and up

Eating & Drinking

The Biltmore has 8 options for eating or drinking.  You read that correctly, EIGHT, really it's 3 restaurants but 8 options.  Palme D'or is classic French cuisine for the most discerning taste, a very high end dinning experience, James Beard Award winning chef Gregory Pugin makes sure of it.  If French cuisine isn't on your list or you want more casual experience they have you covered too with Italian style fair or pool side lunch and even afternoon tea.  I can promise if you choose to eat here you will find something to satisfy and amaze.  The wine selection available here is definitely worth checking out.  The food here is so good in fact the hotel now hosts a Culinary Academy.

Amenities

Apart from the aforementioned world class cuisine and Culinary Academy this hotel offers a stunning award winning spa and fitness center.  The hotel is also right on the golf course so if that is your game you are in a perfect place.  If you are new to golf they have a Golf Academy also.  The pool here is beautiful and relaxing, it doesn't hurt that it's huge and you can hide away.  Plus all the standard high end hotel services, Towncar service, dry cleaning, concierge, gift shop and banquet/meeting rooms.

To me this is the hotel you go to when you need a bit of an oasis within the city.  You are only about 10min from downtown and 20min from South Beach but worlds away.
