Every time I go to the beach I find myself fumbling and trying to find and remember all of the things. No one wants to go back to the house or the hotel for chapstick. But I have a great list of new and some not so new awesome things to help.

Techies and camera enthusiasts have their gadgets they swear by. I won't get all crazy with my tech. I pick products with great reputations and ones that I have had a chance to try and work with before I buy them.
One area you should consider splurging if you haven't already is on audio gear. If you plan to really backpack or just travel frequently you will be glad you did. Usually in the long run you will save money and replace less. I wanted to include some other audio things to consider as well.
Now I am assuming that you are going to be doing quite a bit of walking on your trip. So unless you are traveling the Four Season's way you won't need much in the way of fancy. I still tried to find a nice blend of durable and comfortable and not look like a hiker who stumbled into downtown London.
If you are like most people you need a phone today. It's the most multi function device we carry and can do just about anything fairly well. For some bringing a bulky camera is silly when you have a phone with a decent camera.
Depending on the way in which you travel and the length you will need different things. If you've read any other posts here you know I am focused on backpacking and I am going for a few months but most of what I have learned can easily be adapted for shorter stays or much longer.
These guys and gals really make great backpacks. I bought their Tortuga bag for the upcoming backpacking trip to Europe and I did give it a test run for good measure.
