My top destinations
I'm sure everyone has a bucket list of places they'd like to visit. I just came across Lonely Planet's 2017 guide to the Top Destinations around the globe and felt compelled to share my personal list of places. A large chunk of these are on my list because they will, in my lifetime, be either gone or closed to the public forever. Being that this is a bucket list I claim no ownership of any of the photos below, hopefully very soon I will get to replace them with my own though.
Such a small place and yet such an amazing variety of places to see. Cambodia, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Vietnam and of course Phuket (mostly for the name). Now I know Cambodia and Vietnam are separate countries but same region and I would have to do those too if I took the long flight over.
Australia & New Zealand
There isn't much I could say about either of these places you haven't already heard or dreamed about. They are so different and so close. Australia is known for it's tropical coasts and desert like inland with completely unique plants and wildlife. New Zealand is such a pristine country with stunning mountains and sprawling vistas. Also pretty sure that kangaroo is my spirit animal.
South Africa (again)
If you are following my current posts about Africa you may get the sense there is an underlying tone. It's complete obsession, it's my favorite place so far and there is so so much more to see.
The 7 wonders of the world
Of course I'd love to track down the 7 Man Made Wonders of the Ancient World. Too bad most of them no longer exist and a few are still only myths. So I'll settle for the New 7 Wonders. The new 7 include; Colosseum, Stonehenge, Great Wall of China, Leaning Tower of Pisa, Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, Taj Mahal and the Porcelain Tower of Nanjing. Also not crazy but that Stonehenge picture is kinda funny.
These adorable chain of islands like the Taj Mahal are fading and quickly. The Taj Mahal will soon close for good and the Galapagos are being destroyed by tourism. Super ironic since I want to visit. But the shear number of tourists and they wildlife they for some reason have brought to the island are reeking havoc. I don't know about you but I have never traveled and brought random wildlife and then left them.
This is actually already on my calendar. I plan to go for the 2020 Summer Olympics. Tokyo is one of those marvels, it's shear size and technology is astounding. The people and culture are complicated and visually beautiful.
Filled with some of the most amazing colors any where in the world. Tight alleys and hidden markets are all part of the charm of this Middle Eastern gem. Plus you can get some phenomenal spices and herbs here.
Of course there is so much more out there to see but I think these are on the top of my list. I'm sure this list will expand and change as I begin to knock some off. Some of these places like the Taj Mahal and the Galapagos will be closing to the public within the next 10 years so I would really like to get to them before it's too late.
